Description

The world’s oldest and most well-known blend. A richly balanced, earthy cup, with a flavor profile of brandy-toned chocolate, nutty almond, and hints of blueberry top notes.

Our version of the ancient Mocha-Java blend combines a genuine Java from the government estates of East Java with two different Ethiopia "natural" or dried-in-the-fruit coffees, both of which represent variations of the original Yemen Mocha component of the blend: one from the Harrar region of Ethiopia and a second from the Amaro region of southwestern Ethiopia.

Ken Davids of Coffee Review in his 91 POINTS - January 2010 assessment describes our Mocha Java as: 

"Intense aroma: brandy fermented fruit, sweet-toned flowers, and aromatic wood. In the cup richly balanced; delicate fruit and floral top notes with deeper hints of earth, brandy-toned chocolate, and aromatic wood. These deeper tones carry into a mildly but distinctly astringent finish."

I love this coffee. I have been ordering/picking up this coffee for the last 3 or 4 years and have no complaints. When I first started getting it shipped, my mailman brought it to my door to ask me about it because he could smell it through the shipping package.

Sometimes amazing sometimes awful

Some of the best bags I’ve had from Klatch are mocha java blends. Recently (Jan 2025) they’ve been pretty bad and I won’t order more for a while, but in the past they’ve been blueberry stunners.

This most recent roast was over roasted or the blend is off. Chocolate and butter, no fruit. Using a high quality grinder it’s still bitter and anstringent until it’s so coarse it’s a sour bomb.

I really hope a new batch will improve it but I’ll wait till summer 2025 to risk it again.

Discovered this coffee at a bagel shop where our son lives. Loved it so much I had to do some research, and was happy to discover Klatch and the ability for a monthly (or less) subscription delivered to our house. The subtle hint of blueberry is the bees knees.
